A father, a son, and a daughter started building one house at a time. Forty years later, it’s still a family passion.

Sanders & Sons became Sanders & Siblings
S&S Homes didn’t start with a business plan. It started with a family learning to build together. Steven Sanders went to work with his father, Warren, straight out of high school, learning the trades with his hands. His sister, Janet Axelsen, was working for an architect, where she developed an eye for design and for how a home should feel.
As Warren and Steven took on projects, they asked Janet for design help — and before long she joined them full time. Sanders and Sons became Sanders and Siblings: the beginning of S&S Homes.
That was 40 years ago, when the family business was called S&S Construction. In 1995 it became S&S Homes of the Central Coast, Inc., and homebuilding is still our passion. Today we build in two divisions: our Coastal Division designs and builds one-of-a-kind homes on land we select on the Central Coast, and our Kern Division builds personalized homes in two Bakersfield communities, Vista Montaire and Palmetto Estates.
Our President, Warren Sanders, may tell you that his legacy is the nearly 3,000 homes he has built over the years. But ask the people who know him best, and they might tell you something different. His greatest legacy is the people who have built S&S alongside him—employees who have stayed for 15, 20, even 30 years or more, and generations of family members who have been fortunate to get their start working in the family business.
Warren has always believed that success means more when it is shared, and that when one person rises, there should be room to bring others along with them. His kindness, loyalty, and instinct to put people first have created something far greater than a homebuilding company: a true work family. Today, that family extends from longtime employees to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom are part of a legacy built not simply in homes, but in people, relationships, and a life well lived. That spirit is at the heart of S&S Homes—and it is what makes us who we are.
